Description
Walls that seem to have always been there, in the sequence of other walls that were always there, delimitating the closed off world as expected in an intimate space, in contrast with the open space that these introverted walls also draw in parallel to the houses and the Leixões port. Eduardo Souto de Moura takes on the never built project, of the house with the three Mies van der Rohe patios and rebuilds in Matosinhos today the roman idea of inhabiting. The small patios, that allow the presence of light in the inside of the house, are like peristyles of the roman domus and the bigger patio, the private garden, is protected from the exterior world by the presence of the house itself. A canapé would be a natural furniture piece in the silent atmosphere of these houses.
