Description
The way in which we visit the Port wine cellars (and other spaces of wine production but not only) changed deeply in recent years. The growing wine tourism market and the search for a “total experience” involves today the witnessing of the processes of production in their most authentic form, and the tasting of different wines, understanding their characteristics and possibly also connecting with the architecture where it has been historically produced – without neglecting the necessary architectural aggiornamento [update] that makes the experience more memorable. The Cockburn’s Cellars rehabilitated by architect Luís Loureiro (following the Grahams Cellars) are another good example of “transformation in continuity” – a rehabilitation that was attentive to layers of knowledge, history and narrative, always supported by a contemporary architectural proposal in the context of cultural patrimony
