Description

A reference point when arriving to Porto by sea, it rises in the south sea wall of the Leixões Port in a precise position. A sculpture with a promenade and living roof, establishes itself as a belvedere over the sea front of the greater Porto. In its interior, apparently hollow, a span with full height occupies the centre of the building that develops along a helical ramp that holds the Sea Science and Technology Park and the headquarters of CIIMAR Interdisciplinary Centre of Marine Research, both from the University of Porto. An iconic work that stands out because of the exuberant unfolding of its walls in movement, which seem to defy the firm architecture, in the same way that transatlantic ships defy the idea of city. Ship and Terminal, both dystopias, mutually evoke each other and the south sea wall never could be seen in its unshakeable horizontality.
